Palisades Tahoe Opens Early

Pumpkin in snow

Over the Halloween weekend, people came to Palisades Tahoe to enjoy skiing and snowboarding. This is only the 3rd time in their history that they have opened this early.

An early October snow storm brought three feet of snow and many people enjoyed skiing in their costumes. The last time this occurred was in 2004, and allowed Palisades Tahoe to establish a base for skiing and riding.

Opening Day Palisades Tahoe November 24, 2021

Opening day was originally scheduled for Thanksgiving, but Mother Nature put on an early show and many people took advantage of the opportunity to make some turns. However, warming conditions led them to suspend operations again, until November 24th.

The Palisades Tahoe Facebook page says: “While we were hoping to keep the ski & ride season going this weekend, Mother Nature has other plans. Due to warm temps, some rain, and melting snowpack, we will be closed for skiing and riding this weekend. Daily operations are scheduled to kick off on November 24, but we will continue to assess snowpack and open sooner if conditions permit.”

More Precipitation on Way

There are still systems coming into California, but the snow levels look like they will be remaining at 10,000 to 9,000 feet. Nature threw us all a surprise last time, so we are keeping our fingers crossed for cooler temperatures as these storms move through.

Monday and Tuesday this week saw warmer temperatures. Tomorrow another system moves in, but it may be moving farther North. Forecast models look to be similar to this week’s earlier systems.

The next chance for precipitation looks to be around November 9th, and may come with cooler temperatures.
